Major League Baseball (MLB) Kansas City Royals left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (32), who was hit in the face by a ‘bullet hit’, was diagnosed with a facial bone fracture.
The Kansas City club announced on the 9th (Korean time) that Yarbrough was placed on the 15-day injured list (IL) after a fracture was found as a result of a close examination.
Yarbrough will undergo further examinations. Depending on the test results, there is a possibility of moving to a 60-day IL.
Yarbrough, who started the game against the Oakland Athletics held at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA on the 8th, was hit in the left temple of his face by Ryan Noda’s ball in the top of the 6th inning without a runner.
Yarbrough threw a low sinker at 87.9 miles per hour (about 141 km) in the sixth pitch in a full count situation. Noda hit it, but the ball flew at 106.2 miles per hour (about 171 km) and hit Yarbrough in the face.
The ball hit so fast that there was no time to dodge. The impact was so strong that the ball that hit Yarbrough’s face returned to the vicinity of the home plate.
Yarbrough wrapped his head in a towel and headed for the dugout, supported by his trainer.
“It was a terrible moment,” said Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro.
Yarbrough played for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2018 to last year and ate rice with Choi Ji-man (Pittsburgh Pirates). His career big league record is 41-35 with a 4.41 earned run average.
Yarbrough, who started this season as a bullpen pitcher, started as a starting pitcher at the end of last month.스포츠토토
Yarbrough, who was sluggish with 5 runs in 3⅔innings against the Baltimore Orioles on the 3rd, showed good pitching until he was hit by a ball against Oakland the previous day. Yarbro, who gave up 3 hits and 1 run in 5⅔ innings, harvested his first win (4 losses) of the season.
Meanwhile, Kansas City called up right-hander Jose Kuas from Triple-A instead of Yarbrough, who had risen to IL.
