A total of 4.51 million tons of food crops were produced in North Korea this year. Due to abnormal temperatures such as low temperatures and drought, production decreased by about 180,000 tons compared to last year. On the 14th
, the Rural Development Administration announced the estimated results of ‘North Korea’s food crop production in 2022’ with these contents . It is the result of a comprehensive analysis of weather conditions in North Korea, occurrence of pests and diseases, fertilizer supply and demand conditions, crop data from domestic and foreign research institutes, and satellite image information. As a result, the food crop produced in North Korea this year is estimated to be 4.51 million tons , a decrease of 180,000 tons ( 3.8 %) from 4.69 million tons in 2021 . By crop, 2.07 million tons of rice , 1.57 million tons of corn , 490,000 tons of potatoes and sweet potatoes, 180,000 tons of wheat and barley, 180,000 tons of beans, and 20,000 tons of other miscellaneous grains. Rice production is 90,000 tons ( 4.2%) decreased. In July, the rice reproductive growth season, the temperature was low and the amount of solar radiation was insufficient, so the number of grains was not large.
Corn shrank by 20,000 tons ( 1.3 %) from last year. In the early stage of growth ( April- May), the initial growth was delayed due to insufficient precipitation compared to normal years, and in the mid-growth period to maturity ( June-August ), 토토사이트 flowering and fertilization disorders and poor ripening occurred due to heavy rain and lack of sunlight.
Potatoes and sweet potatoes decreased by 80,000 tons from last year. Spring potatoes did not grow sufficiently due to drought during the tuber formation and enlargement period (May). Potatoes that were not harvested on time due to heavy rain during the harvest season are expected to rot and affect the yield.
Soybeans decreased by 10,000 tons ( 5.3 %) from last year. Due to drought in the sowing season (May), seeding was delayed and sprouts were late, resulting in poor initial growth. In addition, heavy rains during the flowering period (July) and pod growth period (August) seem to have reduced production.
On the other hand, wheat and barley increased by 20,000 tons ( 12.5 %) compared to last year. Although the yield per unit area decreased due to drought in the early stage of production, heavy rain during harvest, and damage to ear sprouting, it is analyzed that production increased as the cultivation area increased by 30 %. During the summer crop growth period ( May-September
) in North Korea this year , the average temperature was 19.7 degrees, 0.4 degrees lower than last year . Precipitation was 1066.1 mm, 327.1 mm more than last year, and insolation was 2774.9 MJ , 1142 MJ less than last year . Kim Hwang-yong, head of the International Technology Cooperation Department at the Rural Development Administration, said, “This year’s weather conditions in North Korea are generally unfavorable for producing food crops, so production is estimated to have decreased compared to last year.”
